Workshops 2012
My workshop programme for 2012 is a full and hectic schedule but I'm going to some exciting and new locations so I can't wait!
The 2012 programme for the 'Two Heads' workshops that I run with David Tarn is now available - more information is available on the Two Heads page.
We are also running 2 one day workshops from the ArtsBank Gallery in Saltburn, Teesside. The 'Techniques of Photography' workshop (23rd March 2012) will cover the basics of photography e.g. controlling exposure, understanding depth of field, using ISO, the advantages of RAW and JPEG files and an introduction to composition. The 'Art of Photography' workshop (24th March 2012) is aimed at intermediate & experienced photographers and will encourage them to move beyond pictorial record shots to take creative images based on their visual and emotional response to a subject. For more information or to book a place please telephone the gallery on 01287 625300.
My 2011 'Lensless Landscapes' workshops for pinhole photographers in the Lake District & Venice both sold out and were successful affairs according to the feedback I have had from those who took part. Due to my other commitments next year I am only planning one 'Lensless Landscapes' event based close to my home in North Yorkshire & the Yorkshire Dales. Please see here for more information about the three days. I have already had bookings and expressions of interest so if you would like to join me please get in touch soon.
After a break while the RHS finished their new study centre at Harlow Carr Garden in Harrogate I've now been asked to restart my workshops there. I will be running five workshops in 2012 - see here for more details. If you'd like to make a booking or get more information then please contact the RHS direct on 0845 130 4646.
I'm also running a couple of new flower & plant photography workshops at Newby Hall, near Ripon, North Yorkshire in 2012 (6th June and 21st September). Further information will be available soon.
Following the successful workshop earlier in the year on the West coast of Ireland, I'm pleased to announce that Phase One have asked me to be an instructor on 3 more workshops for them in 2012 - Iceland (May), the Dingle Peninsula, Ireland (June) and Glencoe, Scotland (October). For more information about PODAS workshops please see here.
Exhibitions
I am still in discussion with a gallery in Moscow about an exciting new exhibition planned for 2012. Once everything has been finalised I will announce the details here.
Articles 2011
Earlier in the year Olympus User magazine published an article I wrote on Fine Art photography illustrated using an Olympus PEN E-PL2 -and at the time I said 'what a fantastic camera!'. I was so impressed by the PEN range that I have since acquired a couple of other cameras (the EP3 and E-PL3) as well as the fantastic Olympus 12mm lens. More information about Olympus User magazine can be found here.
Adore Noir magazine published an interview with me and some of my black & white landscape images in their first issue. The downloadable magazine was launched earlier this year and is a must for lovers of B&W photography. See here for more information about the magazine.
My review of the Leica M9 rangefinder camera was published in Advanced Photographer magazine (February Issue) This can now be seen in pdf format on the Bass & Bligh website. Bass & Bligh are my local independent camera dealers and I can highly recommend their services.
The Swiss Bank, Mirabaud featured a substantial portfolio of my work in their online magazine available as a free download in several languages from the Apple App Store.
Back in March Advanced Photography magazine published a large portfolio of my work taken with plastic lenses, a LensBaby and other alternative optics to raise the profile of 'Lo-Fi' photography.
The same magazine also used some of my autumnal photographs in the November issue and some more LensBaby images in the December magazine as part of a feature on 'Extra-ordinary Optics'. More information about 'Advanced Photographer' magazine can be found here.

Bass & Bligh have also published on their website my 'Top Tips for Successful Landscape Photography' - see here.
